Where to begin? I think its safe to say that my old friend Kasey was my true inspiration for building my own webpage. But before my webpage I was obsessed with winning the site spotlight on neopets. I slowly taught myself to use html, with the help of a few friends. I could draw on the computer, but I couldn’t code worth popcorn (huh!?).

Anyways, with practice I soon mastered the perfect petpage layout and won the spotlight. My art was limited to pixel art because at the time I only had MS Paint, and because of this I wanted to become the master at making the perfect pixel to prove that you didn’t need fancy programs to make graphics. I became popular on the Gallery Spotlight Chat and started making graphics for people on the site. I started with the infamous mini shop, which became so popular that I couldn’t keep up with my requests and people started to steal and alter my designs.

With the start of the mini shop, pixel art boomed at the GSC. I am not saying I was the start of it, because there were a lot of other talented pixel artists floating around as well. So with time, a successful pixel art guild was created: pixelized stardust. To show your worth everyone started to create pixel adoptions on their petpages.

My friend Kasey, who was always into coding, made a real site…and the very-influenced-me created one soon after. Her domain was sparklies.net, and she hosted me. Eventually Kasey disappeared and I had to find another host, which was when I met Lori. Lori was very popular around the forums for her genuine attitude, and was a lovely host. In this time my site name changed from brittburst to kalaelou. I decided the name was more original, and it was the name that I was associated with on neopets. Because I was spending less time on neopets, and even quit for a while, I didn’t want to leave the name behind. I had originally come up with it by combining a few Hawaiian words, and it just stuck. Overall it’s been quite the journey, but I’ve loved every bit of it.
